Camper reopens its Opéra store in Paris, redesigned by Piovenefabi: a curved structure inside a Haussmann shell, hand-painted lines, a bistro mirror
Camper reopened its Opéra store at 8 Place de l'Opéra on 28 September, with a cocktail from 18:00 to 20:00, in a redesign by the Milan and Brussels studio Piovenefabi. The same studio built the Camper Oval inside the Piazza di Spagna store in Rome, taking the curves of the Spanish Steps and the Barcaccia fountain, with a pattern that started from Hockney's pool paintings. In Paris the functional parts, the cash desk, the stockroom access and the display windows, sit in the gap between the new curved structure and the old walls, so the two layers coexist. Miguel Fluxà calls each project a chance to work with architects whose vision challenges convention while staying true to the house's identity. Camper sells in more than 40 countries, designs everything in Inca, and in July took a majority stake in the Athens label Ancient Greek Sandals, which keeps its founders and runs on independently.
