Stella McCartney Summer 2027: an ocean collection shown in the Paris rain, the house's own question on creatures and commodities, dolphins airbrushed on jersey
Stella McCartney's Summer 2027 show ran at 16:00 on 30 September in Paris in a downpour, Jennifer Lopez and Juliette Binoche in the front row under umbrellas. The house's notes frame the collection around the ocean and a question: at what point does a living creature become a commodity, and who gets to decide. From those notes, the parts the runway could not show: the wool is RWS-certified, the organza GOTS-certified cotton, the evening dresses hand-pleated from forest-friendly viscose, the denim 100 per cent recycled. Knitwear uses transparent fish wire to shape crinoline hems and oyster-like silhouettes; waves ripple across lace and satin-stitch hems with crystals, alongside an archival ombré sequin story. The Falabella bag comes transparent, made with recycled PET bottles, the Ryder bag gets a new heart-shaped version, and adidas by Stella McCartney trainers from autumn 2026 are styled into three looks. The notes close on Porphyry: the wolf kills out of necessity, while we kill for luxury and call it justice. The collection reaches stores in January 2027.
