Margiela's Tabi hasn't changed since 1988

Fashion's strangest shoe has outlasted every trend that laughed at it. Martin Margiela put the split-toe Tabi in his very first show, in 1988, and dipped the models' soles in red paint so the boots left cloven footprints down the runway. The audience was meant to notice the shoe. They never stopped. It has been in production more or less unchanged ever since. Thirty-eight years of the same strange idea, now minting money for the house.
