Audrey Hepburn's black Givenchy dress from Breakfast at Tiffany's: sold for 467,200 pounds in 2006 for schools in Kolkata; the three surviving copies

Hubert de Givenchy's black dress for Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's, 1961, sold at Christie's in London on 5 December 2006 for 467,200 pounds to an anonymous telephone bidder, against an estimate of 50,000 to 70,000. Givenchy had given the dress to Dominique Lapierre, author of City of Joy, and the proceeds went to City of Joy Aid to build schools for children in Kolkata. Three copies of that dress survive: the original in Givenchy's archive, one in a Madrid museum, and the one sold. The photographs show two other Givenchy pieces Hepburn wore in the same film, the short black dress with its hat and the pink cocktail dress and coat, as displayed at the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag's Givenchy exhibition in 2017.
