Converse put a real salesman's name on the shoe

Converse named its best-known shoe after a salesman. The All Star arrived in 1917. A basketball player called Chuck Taylor sold them so well, and tweaked them so often, that in 1932 the company stitched his signature onto the ankle patch. It is still there. Plenty of people in their 'Chucks' have no idea Chuck was a real travelling salesman, immortalised on their feet.
