Paisley is named after a Scottish town

Paisley is Persian, but the name is Scottish. The little teardrop is the boteh, an ancient Persian and Kashmiri motif that travelled west on prized Kashmir shawls. Europe could not get enough of them, so the mills of Paisley, near Glasgow, churned out cheap copies until the town's name swallowed the pattern whole. The design is centuries old, the word is a postcode.
