Harris Tweed is protected by its own Act of Parliament
A cloth protected by its own Act of Parliament. By the Harris Tweed Act of 1993, the fabric must be handwoven by islanders at home in the Outer Hebrides, from pure virgin wool dyed and spun there, then stamped with the Orb mark.
The Orb, registered in 1910, was an early British certification mark. Slow cloth, protected by law.
