Naomi Campbell fell on Vivienne Westwood's Paris runway in 1993 in the Super Elevated Gillie platforms
Vivienne Westwood (@viviennewestwood) showed her autumn winter 1993 collection, Anglomania, in Paris, and Naomi Campbell (@naomi) fell in a pair of Super Elevated Gillie platforms. The V&A in London holds the pair under a 1993 accession number: bright blue leather punched to imitate crocodile, with blue silk ribbon laces. Museums don't agree on how to measure the height, so nearly a foot is as exact as it gets. The Westwood house shows in Paris.

The post, as it ran
01NAOMI CAMPBELL FELL OVER ON VIVIENNE WESTWOOD'S RUNWAY IN 1993. THE SHOES THAT DID IT ARE NOW IN A MUSEUM.
02THEY ARE CALLED THE SUPER ELEVATED GILLIE. BRIGHT BLUE PLATFORMS, NEARLY A FOOT HIGH, TIED WITH SILK RIBBON.
03THE LEATHER IS PUNCHED TO LOOK LIKE CROCODILE SKIN. WESTWOOD, THE LONDON DESIGNER, SHOWED THEM IN PARIS IN A COLLECTION NAMED ANGLOMANIA.
04CAMPBELL WENT DOWN, AND THE FALL BECAME A MEDIA SENSATION. SHE GOT UP AND CARRIED ON WITH THE SHOW.
05SHE HAS SINCE SAID THE RUBBER TIGHTS SHE WAS WEARING PLAYED A PART. AND THAT SHE OWNS THE FALL: PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKES.
06THE PAIR IS HELD BY THE V&A MUSEUM IN LONDON. HER FIRST NAME IS HANDWRITTEN IN CAPITALS ON THE INSOLE.
07WESTWOOD'S VIEW WAS THAT VERY HIGH HEELS PUT A WOMAN'S BEAUTY ON A PEDESTAL. THIS PEDESTAL ENDED UP BEHIND GLASS.
