The tuxedo is named after a town
The tuxedo is named after a place, not a person. The tailless dinner jacket got its American name from Tuxedo Park, the moneyed enclave north of New York, where it turned up at the Tuxedo Club's autumn ball in 1886. The garment itself was English, the Prince of Wales had ordered a tailless evening coat from Savile Row years earlier. America just gave it the name that stuck.
