Mary Quant named the miniskirt after her car

Quant always said the credit wasn't really hers: that the girls on the King's Road kept asking for the hemline higher and she just obliged. The invention gets split between her, Paris designer Andre Courreges and Britain's John Bates, and the argument has run for sixty years. What is not in dispute: she gave it a name, a shop, and a decade.
